Vietnam in the Summer is hot. Damn hot. So when you’ve cycled into the – quite frankly, stunning town of Hoi An, had a mosey around the galleries and ancient buildings, it’s time for a break.
Look for the signs advertising ‘Bia Hoi’. This translates as ‘fresh beer’ which is just what it is. Brewed on the premises (normally) it is a light beer without preservatives. designed to be drunk ice cold straight off – not stored in bottles or basements.
So here is the last one I ordered in Hoi An before leaving for Saigon, overlooking the delightful and entertaining Thu Bon River. Add a bag of beer nuts, it’s the perfect mid-morning break. It’s tasty, fresh, cold and also has a kick. Did I tell you it will set you back 15p a glass? Oh… thought not. I had to have another.
